As I sit here in the basement, at the bar, on my recently repaired money machine, (a.k.a. my Mac), looking through work (castings, freelance editing work, PA work) and listening to So Appalled by Kanye West, I started to think about a couple of things…
1. I realized how relieved I was not having a laptop for a while since it gave me a degree of freedom that I hadn’t felt or experienced in a long time… at first I looked at it as a set-back since it stalled me from getting some work done. I had to rely more heavily on my Blackberry and Safari on my iPod when I truly needed to use the internet. I quickly wondered which alternative was better, this so-called freedom or the window to opportunity being opened again? Regardless, I think we all need to have a “holiday” that lasts anywhere from a day to a week that we either don’t use our tv’s or computers. You will rediscover and have a new appreciation all over again for certain other activities. Also, you might create or LEARN SOMETHING! (GASP!) God forbid THAT ever happens! I don’t know about you, but I always love to learn new things. As I learned in Philosophy class, you become what you know…
2. I started wondering how all of my other friends search for places to make money (if they aren’t doing the #1 thing they love to do or are passionate about)?
I know my new favorite is this site that I’m connected to that you can sign up and try to get freelance work based on YOUR skill set. There’s virtually someone for everyone. You have to be born with no legs, eyes, a mouth, and other extremities in order to NOT know how to do something that will get you paid on this site. It’s definitely proven to be safe. Come on, I wouldn’t steer you wrong like that….knowingly. Ok, OK, I’m just kidding…I know that doesn’t sound too comforting. I know you have bills to pay, because I certainly do…boy, DO I?! Haha! I say, why not get the money you need to do that while also making sure you are making the necessary steps to get closer to doing what you love?! This is one of my many rants…coming to a computer screen near YOU!
