Looking back at the history of the family, my mother discovered pictures and articles involving her grandfather (my great) named Fernando Pizarro who played the bass in the band known as “El Septeto Puerto Rico”. The band was known for being the first one in Puerto Rico to feature “the tres” in songs.
Here is a picture of them in 1930. My great-grandfather is the one standing in the top left corner. He was the first player to ever have his bass painted white (not pictured here).
Then, the tradition of music continued down the line in the family and was passed to…Fernando Pizarro (my uncle, “Tio Pito”). He was a composer/arranger, actor (in the original movie, Ché), and worked for ASCAP Latino. He even had the great opportunity to work with acts like Fania All Stars and Charlie Palmieri (Adelante, Gigante).
Knowing this has made me feel closer to my culture and has given me inspiration to keep the tradition of entertaining alive in the family to share with the world. It would be great to make the future generations of my family as proud as my past ones have made me! This is only one side of the family I’m mentioning…I haven’t even gotten into my father’s side, yet! With this being said…
